Slovenia really has one international airport that counts: Ljubljana Jože Pučnik (LJU), about 26 km north of the capital at Brnik. It handles around 2 million passengers a year. The old national carrier, Adria Airways, collapsed in 2019, and since then a mix of low-cost and full-service airlines has filled the gaps to the major European hubs. Maribor (MBX) in the northeast barely sees commercial traffic and is mostly general aviation.
The country is small enough that the airport is within easy reach of almost all of it, the Julian Alps, Lake Bled, the short Adriatic coast near Koper. Slovenia is in both Schengen and the eurozone, so arrivals are simple. Hotels near Ljubljana Airport suit late arrivals and early departures, with the centre about 30 minutes away by shuttle or taxi.
