Malta International Airport (MLA) in Luqa, about 6 kilometres south of Valletta, is the only commercial airport the island has, and for its size it's remarkably busy. It connects to more than 100 destinations with Air Malta, Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air and others flying year-round and seasonal routes. With near-constant sunshine, the UNESCO-listed capital of Valletta, ancient megalithic temples and the walled cities of Mdina and the Three Cities, Malta rewards a visit in any month, and hotels near Malta Airport make a handy starting point.
Malta Public Transport buses link the airport to Valletta and the resorts in about 25 to 30 minutes, with taxis and pre-booked transfers waiting at the terminal. The island is tiny, just 27 kilometres by 14, so almost any hotel is within 30 to 40 minutes of the airport, which makes location less of a worry than it would be elsewhere.
