Things to Do at Geneva Airport During a Layover

Step 1
Collect free ticketBefore leaving baggage claim, collect the free 80-minute public transport ticket from the yellow machines near the exit. Valid on all TPG trams and buses.
Step 2
Tram 10 to CornavinTram 10 departs from outside Arrivals and reaches Cornavin station in about 25 minutes. Bus 10 follows the same route.
Step 3
Walk to Jet d’EauFrom Cornavin, walk south toward the lake (about 25 minutes on foot). Or take Tram 12 two stops to Bel-Air, then walk 10 minutes to the lakeside.
Step 4
Old Town, Vieille Ville (optional)Uphill from Cornavin, about 20 minutes on foot. Cathedrale St-Pierre offers views over the city. Best for 5-hour or longer layovers.
Step 5
CERN or Palais des Nations (optional)CERN is west of the city on Bus 18. Palais des Nations (UN) is north. Both require a separate ticket and are suited to 6-hour or longer layovers.

Aspire Lounge then Jet d’Eau
With 3 hours or more, collect the free ticket, use the Aspire Lounge briefly, then Tram 10 to Cornavin and walk to the lake.

Couple

Free city ticket, lake and Old Town
Use the free ticket together. Walk the lake promenade, then climb to Vieille Ville for the views. A natural 3 to 4-hour circuit.

Family

Airport with good cafes
The terminal is spacious and has good cafes. The lakeside walk with young children is pleasant but requires at least 3 hours from landing.

Is the free transport ticket really free?
Yes. Arriving passengers at Geneva Airport can collect a free 80-minute public transport ticket from yellow machines in the baggage claim area. It must be collected before leaving the airport. It covers Tram 10, Bus 10 and all TPG services within the city.
Does the free ticket cover the tram to the city?
Yes. Tram 10 and Bus 10 stop outside Arrivals and go directly to Cornavin station. Both are covered by the free airport ticket.
Is Jet d’Eau always running?
The Jet d’Eau typically runs from March to October. In winter it is switched off or reduced. Check locally on arrival, especially for spring and autumn trips.
What is the minimum layover for a city visit?
Allow at least 2 hours for the lake only. For Old Town add another hour. For CERN or Palais des Nations you need at least 6 hours from landing.
Is CERN open to visitors?
CERN has a visitor centre open to the public on certain days. Pre-registration is required. Check cern.ch before your visit. It is not a spontaneous drop-in attraction.
