Swedavia runs Sweden's airports, and they have to cover a lot of ground, from Malmö in the south to Kiruna above the Arctic Circle. Stockholm Arlanda (ARN), about 42 km north of the capital, is the principal hub and one of Scandinavia's busiest, base for SAS. Stockholm also has Bromma (BMA) for domestic flights and Skavsta (NYO) for some low-cost routes. Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT) serves the second city, while the south around Malmö leans on Malmö Airport (MMX) and, across the Øresund Bridge, Copenhagen's Kastrup.
There's a reason to visit in either season: archipelago islands, midsummer and the midnight sun in summer; Northern Lights, the ice hotel at Jukkasjärvi and skiing in winter. Hotels near Swedish airports tend to be well run and, true to form, often come with serious green credentials.
