Common questions
Is the metro direct from the airport to the city?

Yes. The Red Line (Vermelha) departs from Aeroporto station below T1 arrivals without any outdoor walking. It runs direct to Oriente (10 min) and to Alameda (transfer point for Green and Yellow lines). From Alameda you can reach Baixa-Chiado in about 25 minutes total from the airport. The metro runs 06:30 to 01:00.

Do I need a special card for the metro?

You need a rechargeable Viva Viagem card, available at ticket machines in Aeroporto station for a small purchase fee. Single journeys and 24-hour passes can be loaded onto the card. Tap in on the yellow readers at the gate.

Is Sintra realistic for a layover?

Only if you have 10 hours or more. The journey from the airport is about 1 hour 20 minutes each way (metro to Rossio, then train to Sintra). You need at least 3-4 hours in Sintra to see the main sites. Allow 90 minutes to return to the airport before your flight. Book Pena Palace tickets in advance.

What is the ANA Lounge maximum stay?

The ANA Lounge allows a maximum 3-hour stay and requires entry no later than 3 hours 30 minutes before your departure. For layovers longer than 3 hours, use the Blue Lounge separately or plan your lounge time for the second half of your wait.
