Hungary's international flights run almost entirely through Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), about 16 km southeast of the capital and the country's only major commercial airport. It handles over 16 million passengers in a good year, with routes to more than 100 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and North America, and Wizz Air uses it as one of its main bases. A lot of that is low-cost traffic, which fits Budapest's standing as one of Europe's favourite city breaks.
The city is reliably ranked among Europe's most beautiful and most affordable capitals, the architecture, the thermal baths, the Danube views, the ruin bars and the food. Hotels near Budapest Airport in the Ferihegy area offer good rates and an easy run into town, and there's a steady stream of conference business through the airport too.
