Heraklion International Airport (HER), officially Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, is the main airport of Crete and one of Greece’s busiest, located around 5 km east of Heraklion city centre. It handles very heavy summer holiday traffic alongside year-round domestic flights.
Terminals
Heraklion operates from a single, often busy terminal handling all flights; a long-planned replacement airport at Kastelli is under construction to eventually take over.
Getting to and from Heraklion
City bus lines run frequently to central Heraklion in around 15 minutes, and taxis reach the centre in about 10–15 minutes thanks to the short distance. The airport has good coach links to Cretan resorts.
Hotels near Heraklion Airport
Hotels near Heraklion Airport suit early summer departures and Crete stays, with options a short drive from the terminal offering parking and shuttle access.
