Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) sits 35 km east of the centre out at Spata, which is further than most people expect. It's Greece's main international airport and the hub for Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air, handling over 25 million passengers a year. Metro Line 3 runs straight into the city in about 40 minutes, and the same line plugs into the network that carries on down to Piraeus port for the island ferries, which is the part travellers care about most. Hotels near Athens Airport make sense both for early flights and for catching a morning boat.

There are a couple of properties right on the airport campus. The Sofitel is connected directly to the terminal, and the Wyndham Athens Residence is also on site. Both suit anyone with a dawn departure or a tight ferry connection, and Park and Fly parking is easy to arrange.
