Varna Airport (VAR) serves Bulgaria's biggest Black Sea city and the run of resorts along the coast, a stretch that draws holidaymakers from across Eastern Europe every summer. It's about 8 kilometres west of Varna, and most of its traffic is seasonal: charter and low-cost flights from the UK, Germany, Russia, and Scandinavia, busiest from May to October. Sunny Beach, Golden Sands, and Albena fill up in those months, and hotels near Varna Airport range from city business properties to resort beds down the coast.
Public buses reach the city in around 20 minutes, with taxis on hand at the terminal.

Beyond the beaches, Varna itself is worth a look. The Archaeological Museum holds the world's oldest gold treasure, and the Sea Garden park runs along the coast.
