Bosnia and Herzegovina has three international airports. Sarajevo (SJJ) is the main gateway and the busiest, with scheduled flights to the major European cities. Tuzla (TZL) punches above its weight on low-cost and charter traffic, much of it the Bosnian diaspora flying to Germany, Austria and Switzerland on Wizz Air and others. Mostar (OMO) is the third. Sarajevo handles around 1.5 million passengers a year and has grown steadily as tourism to the region has picked up.
The country isn't in the EU or Schengen but is an official candidate, with talks advancing. EU citizens can enter on an ID card or passport and most Europeans travel visa-free for short stays. Hotels near Sarajevo Airport are useful for early flights or late arrivals into a city known for its Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian layers and its growing pull as a Balkan destination.
