Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA), named for Mother Teresa, who was of Albanian heritage, is the country's only international airport and its main aviation gateway. It sits about 17 kilometres northwest of Tirana city centre near Rinas, and traffic has grown fast as Albania has turned into one of Europe's most talked-about budget destinations. Wizz Air, Air Albania, Ryanair and others fly direct routes here through the year. If you want hotels near Tirana Airport, bear in mind that most accommodation is in the city.
The Rinas Express bus runs into the centre in about 30 to 40 minutes, and taxis are at the terminal.

Options right by the airport are thin, so most people stay in Tirana itself, where a busy café culture, colourful buildings, good traditional food and a clutch of new boutique hotels make the capital increasingly rewarding. The airport is also the way in for the Albanian Riviera, one of the most spectacular and least developed coastlines in Europe.
